Volunteer with Youth Services!

Help mentor young children through our summer reading game. Great public service experience and fun! If you complete at least 10 hours of service you will be invited to our summer reading volunteer pizza party on August 5th.

All Summer Reading Volunteers need to attend a mandatory orientation session.  The final orientation date is scheduled for June 16 .

Another volunteer opportunity is “Book Buddies” (reading one-on-one with a child).  Ask about it at the youth services desk or call: 847-663-6622

Thank you to everyone who submitted poetry to our contest this year.  We really had a great group of poems by teens and adults, and enjoyed reading them.  Picking winners was tough.  Here are our favorite poems from 2010:

Teens:
“Jim” by Nora Elderkin
“A New Day” by Najlah Iqbal
“She looks back” by Camila Cubillos
“Through the Ages” by Michelle Kleine
“How to be a good friend?” by Dayana Sheytanova

Adults:
“Googling A Poet I Heard About At A Workshop” by Karen Corey
“Shannon” by David Rumer
“The Bookmark” by Kevin Shyne

The poems are on display on the 3rd floor of the library.  We have also printed booklets of the poems that are free for anyone to take.
