Fantasy RoadTrip Contest

Guess what? This summer, you could win an 8GB iPod Touch and signed audiobooks from Listening Library.

Here’s How: First, pick a character (or characters!) from your favorite fantasy book series. Then imagine: If you could go on a road trip with them, where would you go? What would you do along the way? How would you travel? Finally, Create a video and post it on YouTube!

Virtual Battle of the Bands

Battle of the Bands

When: June 1 – July 31

Got a band together? Looking for a gig? Compete in our virtual battle of the bands! Make a video of your band playing any song and post it online. Then, send us a link to your video.  The deadline for entries is 5pm July 31.

Attend the video screening on August 20 to vote for your favorite and show support for your band. The winning band will get $100 and an exclusive deal to perform at the library.

Please include: your band name, band members’ names and ages, address, phone number, and any library card number with your entry. Local teens and librarians will vote for their favorite. Band members must be between the ages 12-21 as of July 31, 2009. Only bands from Illinois are eligible to win.



Teen Author Gets Amazing Amazon Deal

Author Cayla Kluver self-published her first novel, Legacy, in 2008.   Now the 16-year-old has signed a deal with AmazonEncore – a new publishing venture from Amazon.com.  Soon,  (August 18) Kuvlar’s book will be available online and in print at bookstores nationwide.

Legacy, intended to be the first volume in a trilogy,  is a fantasy adventure centering on the story of Narian, a character imagined by Kluvar.  Kluvar is currently at work on the second book in the series, Allegiance

Kluvar began writing her first book at age 14.  She graduated from high school at age 15.  Read more at her official website: www.caylakluver.com.



Read for a Lifetime

High school students throughout Illinois can earn rewards for participating in the Read for a Lifetime program.  How do you participate?  Simple!  Just read any four books from the list over one year.  For more info, contact a librarian.

There are lots of opportunities for teens to earn service hours plus have a fun volunteer experience this summer!

Summer Reading Volunteers
Teens entering grades 7-12 in the fall are invited to volunteer in Youth Services this summer! Attend one orientation session later this month (May 27 or May 29) to volunteer for the Summer Reading Club.

Playbill
Talented local teens wrote a hilarious play, now we need actors & artists to create a successful performance this summer!  Auditions take place MondayJune 29; and rehearsals run Monday, Wednesday, Friday through July 24.  Our final performance & party takes place July 25. You don’t have to attend every single rehearsal to help out!
