Celebrate Teen Reading With Art

Teen Read Week Art Contest

Celebrate reading with art! Your original 2D art could decorate the Library’s new teen space and website. Art may be done in any media, such as paint, pencil, ink, photography and digital. Finalists will be displayed in the library and online.First place will win a $50 gift card.

Deadline for submissions is Thurs., Oct. 31, @9pm

Grades 7-12 are eligible

Entries may be submitted in person, on a flash drive or CD, or as email attachments. For digital art, please send us your highest resolution. Submitting entries for the contest constitutes permission to display your name and art should your entry win.

Submit your art in person at the adult service desks, snail mail to Donna Block c/o Niles Public Library District, 6960 W. Oakton St., Niles, IL 60714; or by email to teen@nileslibrary.org.

Even though it’s summer, we realize that you’re often required to read books for school.  That’s why we’ve put together lists of the area schools’ summer reading requirements (with some help from our great volunteers Jan and Tim – thanks guys!).

The sun has finally come out, school is almost done with for the year, and Summer Reading is almost upon us.

Our Summer Reading program kicks off June 6.  Sign up, read 4 books and you could win an iPod Touch and other prizes (like free food, free books, movies and maybe even a cool t-shirt).

Save trees this year and check out one of our brand new Sony Readers.  They come loaded with 22 titles, including The Hunger Games trilogy and some fascinating nonfiction like The Glass Castle.

Come to our kick-off event for free food, prizes, and fun!

Bollywood Dancing

Register here for Bollywood Dancing on Jan. 30. Ajanta Chakraborty, founder of the dance company Bollywood Groove, will lead this fun cardioclass for ages 12 and up. Ajanta has a Senior Diploma in Indian classical dance from Prayag Sangeet Samiti, and her passion lies in making the Indian dance styles accessible to all ages. Learn to dance like a Bollywood star!

“Bollywood” is a slang term for popular Hindi-language musical films made in Mumbai (formerly known as Bombay) India.  India produces more films each year than any other country in the world, and Mumbai is the center of the Indian film industry. Read more about Bollywood.
